The creator of Pursuit of Jade (逐玉) has confirmed that its central figure, Fan Changyu (Tian Xiwei), was shaped by a real historical legacy, bringing new context to one of the drama’s most talked-about characters as the series continues to gain traction.
Novelist Tuanzi Laixi, whose real name is Zhang Furong, has revealed that Fan Changyu’s defining traits were directly inspired by Qin Liangyu, a widely respected female general from the late Ming Dynasty. While the drama itself is set in the fictional Dayin Dynasty, the character’s “core spirit” is grounded in historical reality rather than pure invention.
That influence is visible in the parallel arcs between the two figures. Fan Changyu begins as the daughter of a butcher, forced into survival mode after personal loss and instability reshape her life.
Her path into the military is not driven by ambition but necessity, gradually evolving into leadership as she rises through the ranks.
Qin Liangyu’s trajectory, though rooted in a different social standing, follows a comparable pattern—trained in martial discipline from a young age, she later assumed command responsibilities during a period of political uncertainty, eventually earning official recognition from the imperial court.
