A new Chinese family comedy titled Now I Met Her (我的妈耶) has locked in its theatrical release date, with the film set to arrive in cinemas across China on 3 April during the Qingming Festival holiday.

The announcement came alongside the film’s first trailer, offering audiences an early look at a warm yet humorous story centred on family bonds, youthful memories, and the quiet discoveries between a mother and her son.

Known in Chinese as Wo De Ma Ye, the film combines nostalgia and comedy to explore the hidden chapters of a parent’s past.

The newly released trailer quickly drew attention online, hinting at a heartfelt narrative built around memories, romance, and the awkward charm of growing up.

At the centre of the story is Zhang Shiyi, played by Justin Huang Minghao, a young man who accidentally stumbles upon an old diary belonging to his mother, Li Dongyu, portrayed by Ma Sichun

The worn pages reveal fragments of a life Zhang never knew existed.

Through the diary, Zhang Shiyi begins uncovering stories from his mother’s youth long before she became the calm and dependable parent he knows today.

What unfolds is a lively portrait of Li Dongyu’s younger days—full of friendship, dreams, and emotional twists.

Among the most memorable stories in the diary is Li Dongyu’s sweet yet chaotic romance with her future husband, Xun Ge, played by Bai Ke

Their relationship, portrayed with both warmth and humour, becomes one of the emotional anchors of the film.

The diary also captures moments of friendship and youthful ambition, showing Li Dongyu and her circle navigating life with optimism and occasional mischief.

The film leans heavily into these nostalgic snapshots, building a picture of youth filled with laughter, awkward love stories, and the small decisions that shape adulthood.

Behind the camera, the project carries strong industry backing. Now I Met Her is produced by well-known filmmaker Ning Hao, while direction is handled by Xiao Luxi.

Beyond its three leads—Ma Sichun, Bai Ke, and Justin Huang Minghao—the film features an extended ensemble cast that includes Sun Yang, Liang Jingkang, Ji Jiahe, Wang Tianfang, Lei Songran, and Guo Hong.

Adding an extra layer of fun for viewers, Zhang Zixian and Kong Lianshun also appear in cameo roles.

Following the trailer release, online reactions have been varied but lively. Some fans praised the emotional angle of the story, noting that the diary-driven narrative feels relatable and reflective of family relationships many people recognise.

Others pointed to the casting of Ma Sichun and Bai Ke as a promising pairing, expecting their chemistry to deliver both comedy and heartfelt moments.

There are also viewers intrigued by Justin Huang Minghao taking on a more narrative-driven role, with fans curious to see how the younger actor balances humour with the film’s reflective tone.

Meanwhile, a few netizens said the concept of rediscovering a parent’s youth through personal writings already feels nostalgic even before the film arrives.

With its mix of family storytelling, romantic flashbacks, and light comedy, Now I Met Her is positioning itself as a holiday crowd-pleaser for the Qingming season. The coming weeks will likely reveal more about the film’s tone and characters as promotional activities ramp up.

What do you think about the story premise and the casting of Ma Sichun, Bai Ke, and Justin Huang Minghao? Are you planning to watch Now I Met Her when it hits cinemas this April?
