Chinese actress Lulu Xu Lu has set social media buzzing after candidly revealing during a 21 February live stream that her current weight stands at 96 jin, roughly 48 kilograms. Instead of chasing extreme slimness, she made it clear she is prioritising strength and wellbeing over outdated beauty expectations.
During the broadcast, Xu Lu shared that she now weighs seven to eight jin heavier than when she was at her thinnest. Surprisingly, she described this as a positive change. The actress admitted she has never had a particularly strong physical constitution, and dropping too much weight again would only make things worse.
“I’m actually very satisfied with my current state,” she explained. She added that if she became any thinner, it would negatively affect her health. Her words were simple yet powerful: without a healthy body, everything else is meaningless.
In an industry where extremely slim figures are often quietly promoted as the ideal, Xu Lu’s honesty felt refreshing.
Rather than glorifying drastic weight loss, she drew a clear line between being slim and being healthy — and made it clear they are not always the same thing.
Her statement quickly divided netizens into different camps.
One group praised her for speaking up. Many fans applauded her mature mindset, calling her stance “grounded” and “responsible”.

Some commented that her words were a reminder that long-term health matters far more than fitting into sample-size outfits.
Others pointed out that her confidence may encourage younger fans to rethink unrealistic body standards.
Another group, however, sparked debate. A few netizens questioned whether 48kg is already considered slim by most standards, wondering if discussions like this still unintentionally reinforce weight-focused conversations.
Some argued that constant public attention on numbers, even in a healthy context, shows how deeply the entertainment world is obsessed with measurements.
Despite the mixed reactions, most agreed that Xu Lu handled the topic with sincerity rather than drama.
Xu Lu first rose to nationwide recognition through her role as the gentle and innocent Zhen Yurao in Empresses in the Palace, a historical drama that became a cultural phenomenon.
Since then, she has steadily built her career with projects such as One and a Half Summer, The Wife’s Lies, Tribes and Empires: Storm of Prophecy, and The Vendetta of An, proving her range across romance, fantasy and period dramas.
What do you think about Xu Lu’s perspective? Is this the kind of conversation the industry needs more of, or does it still highlight the pressure surrounding weight?
