Zhao Lusi’s name is quietly but steadily taking over online discussions again, and this time it is not just about one project. From costume drama casting whispers to variety show rumours, the actress is once more at the centre of industry and fan speculation, with every new clue fuelling debate across social media.

The biggest talking point right now is the rumoured S+ scale costume drama Inverted Fate (also known by its Chinese title Gong Yu). Produced by Youku and adapted from Ning Long’s novel, the series blends historical fantasy, mystery investigation, and court intrigue. The story follows Teng Yuyi, a general’s daughter who is framed and loses her life, only to be reborn one year earlier.

Determined to uncover the truth, she teams up with Prince Cheng’s heir, Lin Chengyou, moving from misunderstanding to partnership as they unravel supernatural cases and a much larger political conspiracy.

Zhao Lusi has been linked to the female lead role since last year, but recent attention surged after rumours suggested Song Weilong may take on the male lead.

If confirmed, this would mark their first collaboration in nearly nine years since Untouchable Lovers, instantly turning the project into a visual and nostalgia-driven talking point.

Song Weilong’s popularity has recently rebounded thanks to Shine On Me, and many netizens believe the timing aligns well for a high-profile pairing like this.

Industry watchers have also pointed out why the rumour feels more believable than usual.

Zhao Lusi is currently said to be signed under Whale Media, while Song Weilong has long been linked to joining the same management circle.

On top of that, Inverted Fate sits under Youku, which belongs to the same Alibaba Entertainment ecosystem, making collaboration logistics more realistic.

Add to that both actors’ renewed visibility in the market, and the casting suddenly looks commercially attractive.

Beyond dramas, Zhao Lusi is also rumoured to be joining Mango TV’s upcoming variety programme Pet Partners

The show reportedly focuses on four celebrity pet lovers opening a pet-themed concept store together, mixing retail, social interaction, and real-life business challenges.

It aims to show the less glamorous, hands-on side of building something from scratch.

The leaked guest list has sparked just as much chatter, with names such as Chen Zheyuan, Li Jiaqi, Meng Ziyi, Ding Yuxi, Chang Huasen, Zhang Yuxi, and Chen Linong being mentioned.

Zhao Lusi Linked to New Youku Costume Drama and Pet-Themed Variety Show Line-Up

If the line-up becomes reality, fans are already predicting CP discussions to explode, especially with familiar pairings from Hidden Love and The Romance of Tiger and Rose potentially sharing the same screen again.

For many viewers, Zhao Lusi’s involvement in Pet Partners feels like a natural fit rather than a stretch.

She is widely known for her love of animals, particularly her two dachshunds, Doe and Diandian, who regularly appear in her daily updates.

Her personal lifestyle label, ROSYDOEDIAN, which includes pet-related products and daily-use items, has also helped shape her image as someone genuinely invested in pet culture rather than simply endorsing it.

Fan and netizen reactions to these rumours are mixed but lively.

Supporters are excited about the potential reunion with Song Weilong, calling it a “visual upgrade” and praising the balance in star power.

Others remain cautious, pointing out that casting talks have shifted multiple times before.

Some drama fans are more intrigued by the genre blend of Inverted Fate, while variety show viewers are already debating whether Pet Partners could become a surprise hit thanks to its cast chemistry.

For now, both projects remain unconfirmed, with no official announcements from Youku or Mango TV.

Still, the growing number of overlapping clues has kept discussion alive, and many believe it is only a matter of time before clarity arrives.

What do you think about this potential drama pairing and variety show line-up? Would you tune in, or are you waiting for something bigger from Zhao Lusi next?
