Trying to make a living in showbiz has never been as glamorous as it looks — and Wong You-nam is living proof of that.
The 42-year-old Hong Kong actor and former Shine boyband member has recently been spotted behind the wheel of a Citybus, driving airport routes like any other professional bus captain. Mask on, uniform neat, Wong Younam blended in — until sharp-eyed passengers realised the familiar face was, in fact, a former idol.
Photos and short clips quickly made their way onto social media, with many surprised to see Wong navigating traffic instead of red carpets.
But this isn’t a short-term experiment or a publicity move. Wong Younam has been open about needing a stable additional income as acting opportunities have slowed in recent years.

According to reports, he is required to complete around 120 hours of driving every six months — a commitment he has taken seriously. And he’s not stopping at just one licence.
On top of public bus certification, Wong Younam already holds licences for taxis and red minibuses.
Just recently, he proudly announced that he has also passed his travel coach driving test, joking online that he can now take a whole group of friends on a road trip himself. A heavy-goods vehicle licence is next on his checklist.
In Hong Kong’s entertainment circle, this impressive collection of licences — combined with his love for cars — has earned him a playful nickname: “King of All Vehicles”.

Beyond driving, Wong You-nam also runs a car-focused YouTube channel, where he shares behind-the-scenes moments from his driving work, vehicle experiences, and everyday life on the road. He has even tried his hand at racing, further proving that this new direction isn’t random, but rooted in genuine interest.
Responding to public praise, Wong Younam has remained refreshingly grounded.
“Being a bus driver is not easy at all,” he wrote on social media. “I believe everyone who works hard for their livelihood absolutely deserves respect.”

He also admitted that getting these licences wasn’t just about passion or creating better content. It was about preparing himself for uncertainty — and making sure he could stand on his own feet no matter how the industry shifts.
With fewer film projects being made locally, Wong Younam chose action over complaint. Today, he wears more than one hat: actor, YouTuber, and professional driver.
His income from driving is said to be enough to cover a solid portion of daily expenses, allowing him to stay afloat while waiting for the right acting roles.
Fans have been full of admiration. “This is what a real man looks like,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “There’s nothing more honourable than earning with your own hands.”
Many have even joked about hoping to one day board a “star-level bus” just to cheer him on in person.
Despite spending more time on the road these days, Wong Younam has never hidden the fact that acting remains his first love. He says he still treasures every opportunity in front of the camera and hopes his new skill set might even help him land roles that require driving expertise.
