Jet Li Hands Over the Torch to Wu Jing, Named IWUF’s Lifetime Volunteer No.001 |
After nearly two decades of representing Chinese martial arts on the global stage, Jet Li has officially concluded his role as the Image Ambassador for the International Wushu Federation (IWUF).
The announcement was made during the 10th Traditional Wushu World Championships, held in Emeishan, Sichuan, as reported by Xinhua News Agency.
Jet Li, who has served in the position for 18 years, was recognised for his long-standing contribution with a new honorary title — “Lifetime Volunteer No.001.”
The IWUF commended the actor for his unwavering dedication to spreading awareness of traditional Wushu and its cultural values across the world.
Taking over the mantle is fellow martial artist and actor Wu Jing, best known for his roles in Wolf Warrior and The Wandering Earth.
Wu Jing will now carry on the mission of promoting Chinese martial arts to a broader international audience.
Speaking to Xinhua, Jet Li expressed heartfelt gratitude for the journey, saying his greatest wish now is to help ordinary Wushu enthusiasts achieve their dreams.
“It’s been a privilege to share the beauty of Wushu with people everywhere,” he said, adding that he hopes to continue contributing to the art in a different way moving forward.
With Wu Jing stepping in and Jet Li staying close to the community in a new capacity, this symbolic handover marks not just the end of a chapter, but the continuation of Wushu’s legacy — blending tradition, discipline, and modern spirit for generations to come.
