New song channels young voices and blue skies of hope in memory of the past
Idol group STU48 has just dropped a track that’s far more than a summer bop – it’s a heartfelt tribute. Titled “Aozora wo Katariaou” (Let’s Talk About the Blue Sky), the song was released on 6 August 2025 to mark 80 years since the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.
But this isn’t just another commemorative song. It’s a message of peace straight from the hearts of a generation who’ve never lived through war – yet carry the stories of it, especially in Setouchi where STU48 is based.
STU48, often called the “idols of the sea,” have deep roots in Hiroshima – not just geographically, but emotionally. Many of the members hail from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and their group has been officially appointed as Peace Culture Ambassadors by the City of Hiroshima.
Their new song isn’t just symbolic. It’s also backed by action – all digital proceeds from “Aozora wo Katariaou” will be donated in full to the Hiroshima City Government, supporting initiatives towards a peaceful world.

“Aozora wo Katariaou” is a soft, emotionally-driven piece that reflects on the beauty of peace, inspired by the imagery of a clear blue sky. It’s that kind of sky, the group says, that gives hope for a future without conflict.

Even though the girls of STU48 didn’t live through the horrors of war, they’re determined to carry forward the memories, the stories, and the importance of never forgetting.
The lyrics explore the simple act of conversation – “talking beneath the blue sky” – as a metaphor for passing down peace, empathy, and connection across generations.

The track is featured in STU48’s upcoming 12th single “Kizutsuku Koto ga Seishun da”, which will be released on 27 August 2025.
While the full single isn’t out yet, fans can already listen to “Aozora wo Katariaou” on STU48’s official YouTube channel, and it’ll also be available on streaming platforms from 13 August.

📣 Hiroshima’s Global Message
Alongside STU48’s music release, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony was held on the same day, where Mayor Kazumi Matsui delivered an English version of the city's Peace Declaration to the world – also available via the city’s official YouTube channel.
This year’s remembrance isn’t just about looking back, but about pushing the conversation forward – and STU48 is right at the centre of that movement, with their voices echoing across generations and borders.
