Bai Lu has officially closed one of the biggest chapters of her acting career. The Chinese actress confirmed on 16 July that her exclusive contract with Huanyu Entertainment has come to an end and will not be renewed, bringing to a close nearly ten years with the agency that helped transform her from a newcomer into one of China's most recognisable television stars. Rather than hinting at behind-the-scenes drama, Bai Lu made it clear that her departure is about embracing a new stage in her career, not walking away from the people who helped build it.
The announcement arrived through a heartfelt letter posted on her personal social media account, where the 31-year-old actress reflected on a decade filled with uncertainty, opportunity and growth. She described the decision as emotional but necessary, explaining that leaving does not erase everything that came before it. Instead, she sees it as the natural continuation of a journey that has already changed her life.
Looking back on the past ten years, Bai Lu admitted that writing the letter was far from easy. She revealed that Huanyu Entertainment was never simply a management company in her eyes. Instead, she described the agency as companions who walked beside her through every success, setback and difficult decision.
She wrote, "These ten years, the company was never a distant manager standing above me. They were fellow travellers who participated in every step with me and shared every result together."
That sentiment quickly became one of the most discussed parts of her farewell, especially among fans who had followed her career since its earliest days.
Much of her message focused on producer Yu Zheng, the influential figure widely credited with discovering her potential. Bai Lu thanked him for believing in her long before she truly believed in herself.
"Thank you, Teacher Yu Zheng. You gave a young person who knew absolutely nothing the key that unlocked the door to her destiny. Ten years ago, that inexperienced girl had no idea how far this road would take her, but she simply wanted to try. Thank you for believing in me before I was confident enough to believe in myself."
She also recalled one particularly emotional moment during her tenth anniversary fan meeting. "When I saw Teacher Yu Zheng and his family sitting among the audience, all the nervousness I didn't know where to put suddenly disappeared. I felt completely supported. Thank you for always being there like family whenever I needed someone to catch me."
Beyond Yu Zheng, the actress expressed gratitude to colleagues across Huanyu Entertainment, including executives and long-time team members who worked behind the scenes throughout her career.
She explained that every casting choice, every career adjustment and every important decision involved countless conversations with the people around her.
"Thank you to Sister Le, Sister Ma and every colleague I have worked with. Thank you for giving me advice, space to grow and the confidence to keep moving forward whenever I doubted myself. Because of all of you, I was able to focus on the thing I love most—acting."
Her fans, affectionately known as Lurong, were equally central to her farewell. Bai Lu acknowledged supporters who have followed her since her debut as well as newer viewers who discovered her through recent hit dramas.
She wrote, "Thank you to everyone who stayed with me through every role. Every piece of encouragement, every suggestion and even every criticism helped me become a better actress. Together, we turned imaginary characters into people who truly existed on screen."
Despite ending her contract, Bai Lu repeatedly stressed that there is no bad blood between herself and Huanyu Entertainment. In fact, she went out of her way to reject any suggestion of a bitter split.
"Leaving now is actually another way of continuing. I am not setting off with uncertainty, but with a clear desire to embrace new challenges, new roles, new ways of expressing myself and a new rhythm."
She concluded by introducing herself once again as "Actress Bai Lu" before sending her best wishes to her former agency.
"Although I am no longer one of your artists, we will always be the closest family. I believe we will continue this precious connection in different ways in the future."
Her carefully chosen words quickly sparked discussion across Chinese social media. Fans praised the mature and respectful tone of the announcement, with many describing it as one of the most heartfelt agency departures seen in recent years.
Others said the letter reflected just how important Yu Zheng's mentorship had been throughout her career, while many expressed excitement about what kind of projects she may pursue next now that she is entering a new professional chapter.
Not every reaction was identical, however. Some netizens wondered whether Bai Lu would establish her own studio, sign with another agency or manage future projects independently.
Others argued that after spending nearly a decade becoming one of the industry's biggest stars, the timing simply made sense. There were also plenty of fans joking that the only real disappointment was having to get used to seeing her without the familiar Huanyu Entertainment label attached. After ten years, even a company logo starts to feel like part of the cast.
While Bai Lu has not yet revealed what comes next, her farewell leaves little doubt about her mindset. This was not written as a goodbye filled with regret, but as a thank-you letter before opening the next chapter.
With a growing international fanbase and an impressive list of successful dramas behind her, many believe her next move could be one of the biggest moments of her career. What do you think Bai Lu should do next? Should she launch her own studio, join a new agency or remain independent?
