Star City ended its first season with the sort of finale that refused to tie everything up neatly. Instead, the Apple TV sci-fi drama doubled down on political intrigue, impossible choices and emotional sacrifices, leaving several major characters hanging in the balance. While the streaming platform has yet to officially renew the series, the ending makes one thing clear: there is still plenty of story left to tell. If a second season moves ahead, the next chapter could become even more politically charged as it edges closer to the timeline established in For All Mankind.

Online reactions have been split in the best possible way. Many viewers praised the finale for choosing emotional consequences over spectacular space action, arguing that the characters carried the story just as much as the missions themselves.

Others admitted they were left shouting at their screens when Sasha refused freedom in favour of staying behind with Anastasia. Some fans even joked that every good decision in Star City lasts roughly five minutes before Soviet politics politely ruins everyone's day. Across discussion forums, one question dominates the conversation: where does the story go after such a dramatic ending?

Although Apple TV has not confirmed Star City Season 2, the series leaves enough unanswered questions to justify another outing. Based on the current production schedule and the scale of the series, a second season could realistically arrive sometime in 2028, assuming development begins within the next year.

Nothing has been announced officially, but fans remain optimistic given the growing popularity of the series and its importance within the expanding For All Mankind universe. One of the biggest storylines likely to continue is the fate of Sasha following his arrest near the Finnish border.

His decision to stay behind instead of escaping with Lakshmi was driven entirely by loyalty to Anastasia, but it also placed him directly into the hands of Soviet authorities. Star City Season 2 could explore whether Moscow believes his version of events surrounding the failed Venus mission or whether he becomes another convenient figure sacrificed to protect government secrets.

Either way, prison may only be the beginning of his problems. Anastasia also appears destined for a difficult future after openly defying orders to rescue Sasha. Her dramatic emergency descent from orbit was one of the season's most memorable moments, but acts of heroism rarely earn rewards inside Star City.

Rather than removing her from the story, her rebellion could transform her into one of the central figures challenging the increasingly rigid political machine controlling the Soviet space programme.

Meanwhile, Lakshmi successfully crossing into Finland creates an entirely different set of possibilities. She is now one of the few people outside the Soviet Union with first-hand knowledge of the disastrous Venus mission.

Whether she chooses silence or reveals what truly happened could reshape international relations within the show's alternate history. At the same time, fans of For All Mankind know this timeline eventually reaches a familiar destination, meaning whatever truth emerges must somehow fit within that larger continuity.

Another storyline expected to receive significant attention involves Tanya, who quietly begins a new life in Paris during the finale. Unfortunately, Star City has never been particularly interested in letting anyone enjoy a peaceful retirement. T

he revelation that someone appears to be following her immediately sparked speculation among viewers. Some believe the mysterious figure works for Soviet intelligence, while others suspect another government has its own interest in Tanya. Either option opens the door to a tense espionage storyline that could extend far beyond the space programme itself.

The political rivalry inside Star City is also likely to become even more ruthless. Lyudmilla Raskova strengthened her influence considerably by intercepting Sasha and Lakshmi before they could reach Finland, proving once again that she remains several moves ahead of almost everyone around her.

Star City Season 2 could see her emerge as the dominant force behind Soviet security, especially after Radimir Petrovsky's authority suffered major damage following the failed operation. Office politics have rarely looked this terrifying.

The future of Sergei Nikulov remains equally uncertain. After risking everything to help the stranded crew return safely, he now faces the consequences of openly challenging the system.

However, because Sergei eventually plays a much larger role within the wider For All Mankind timeline, many viewers expect his story is only beginning rather than ending. His relationship with the Chief Designer may become one of the emotional pillars carrying the series forward.

Speaking of the Chief Designer, Star City Season 2 may finally explore what happens when one of the Soviet Union's greatest scientific minds finds himself increasingly pushed aside by the very system he helped build.

His successful calculations ultimately saved Sasha and Lakshmi, but his influence continues to fade as political leaders tighten their grip over scientific progress. The conflict between innovation and bureaucracy has always been central to Star City, and that tension appears ready to grow even stronger.

One major absence, however, seems unavoidable. Valya's sacrifice on Venus closed one of the most emotional chapters of the first season. His decision to manually redirect the spacecraft ensured Sasha and Lakshmi survived, even though it cost him his own life.

Unless the series leans heavily into flashbacks, actor Adam Nagaitis is unlikely to return as a regular cast member. His death also leaves a lasting emotional burden for everyone who knew him, particularly once the truth eventually reaches Earth.

The rest of the principal cast is widely expected to return if Star City Season 2 is commissioned. Agnes O'Casey should continue as Irina Morozova, whose growing political influence makes her one of the show's most fascinating figures.

Josef Davies is likely to reprise Sergei Nikulov, while Anna Maxwell Martin appears set to continue as the calculating Lyudmilla Raskova. There is also strong expectation that Solly McLeod, Alice Englert, Priya Kansara, and Ruby Ashbourne Serkis will return to continue the unfinished stories surrounding Sasha, Anastasia, Lakshmi and Tanya.

Beyond individual character arcs, the biggest expectation for Season 2 is that Star City continues building the bridge towards For All Mankind. The alternate history has decades left to explore, allowing the series to introduce time jumps similar to its parent show while gradually showing how personal sacrifices and political decisions shape the future of global space exploration.

There may be fewer dramatic missions to distant planets in the immediate future, but the battle for power on Earth could become every bit as gripping. Until Apple TV makes an official announcement, Star City Season 2 remains firmly in the realm of possibility rather than certainty.

Even so, the first season leaves enough unresolved conflicts, emotional cliffhangers and political rivalries to support another compelling chapter. If the series does return in 2028, fans can expect higher stakes, sharper political manoeuvring and even more impossible decisions where nobody escapes completely unscathed.

After all, Star City has already established one simple rule: just when you think someone has finally caught a break, history usually has other plans. What are your biggest Season 2 predictions? Do you think Sasha survives, can Tanya stay hidden, and who will ultimately control Star City?
