When Monica Payne and Luke Wesselhoff arrived on Netflix's The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On Season 4, they already had a love story that stretched back more than a decade. They first met as teenagers, spent years as friends after Monica initially placed Luke firmly in the "just mates" category, then found their way back to each other during the COVID-19 pandemic. Five years into their relationship, however, they found themselves divided over one major question. Monica wanted greater financial stability before saying "I do," while Luke believed building that future together was the whole point of marriage. That disagreement ultimately landed them in one of Netflix's most emotionally demanding relationship experiments.

Unlike some couples who arrived with explosive arguments, Monica and Luke rarely lacked affection. Instead, they struggled with timing, expectations and two very different ideas of what being "ready" actually meant. It turned out that waiting for the perfect moment was almost as exhausting as surviving reality television, and arguably involved fewer cameras.

Their experience took an unexpected turn once the trial marriages began. Monica found herself connecting with David, largely because both shared entrepreneurial ambitions and understood the pressure of building careers.

Meanwhile, Luke formed a surprisingly comfortable partnership with Casey Douglass, giving him space to reflect on his own behaviour outside his long-term relationship. Sometimes distance really does make the heart grow fonder. Other times it simply makes people realise they've been missing obvious things all along.

During his time away, Luke admitted he had spent years placing Monica on a pedestal without fully recognising that she also needed reassurance and emotional support. He came to understand that confidence and clearer communication mattered just as much as loyalty.

At the same time, Monica acknowledged that constantly trying to stay in control had prevented her from showing vulnerability. She realised she wanted Luke to notice when she was struggling instead of waiting for her to ask for help. It was one of the rare moments where both partners appeared to be learning instead of simply arguing over who was right.

When the original couple reunited during the Changeover, their conversations felt noticeably different. Luke reassured Monica that she didn't have to carry every burden alone, while Monica openly recognised how much effort he had invested in the process.

Rather than returning to the same disagreements, they approached their relationship with greater honesty and a clearer understanding of each other's emotional needs. It didn't magically solve every issue overnight, but it certainly looked like a healthier starting point than before.

Their renewed commitment became even more apparent when the couple visited Monica's parents, Tom and Dani Payne. Luke confidently told her father that he was ready for marriage and promised he would always take care of Monica if she accepted his proposal.

It was a defining moment that suggested he was no longer thinking about marriage as a distant milestone but as a genuine commitment. Parents rarely hand out approval easily, and Luke certainly knew he wasn't applying for an ordinary job interview.

Since filming wrapped, Monica Payne and Luke Wesselhoff have remained connected online, continuing to follow one another across social media. Their profiles still include photos and videos from happier moments together, including trips to Disney World, birthdays and holidays that captured the relationship before reality television entered the picture.

However, there have been no recent public posts featuring the pair together, nor have they openly discussed where their relationship currently stands. That silence has naturally fuelled speculation among viewers.

Some fans believe the lack of public interaction simply reflects a decision to keep their relationship private after months of living in the spotlight. Others suspect the couple may have chosen separate paths but prefer not to announce every personal development online.

At the time of writing, neither Monica nor Luke has publicly confirmed or denied whether they are still together, leaving plenty of room for theories but very few concrete answers.

Fans remain split over what the quiet social media activity actually means. Many viewers say the couple showed some of the strongest personal growth during the season and hope they worked through their differences away from public attention.

Others point out that reality television relationships often look very different once everyday life resumes, making it difficult to judge anything based solely on Instagram follows. As always, the internet has confidently reached several completely different conclusions using exactly the same evidence.

Away from the series, Monica Payne has continued building an impressive career centred around fitness and business leadership. After earning a Communication degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, she qualified as a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine

She previously gained leadership experience within Alpha Phi, before expanding her career through several professional roles, including working as a fitness coach at Orangetheory Fitness.

Her entrepreneurial ambitions eventually led to the launch of Move with Moni, where she began offering personal training services while continuing to inspire clients through health and fitness.

Monica also serves as Director of Operations and Retail at Monday Swimwear, balancing business management with her passion for wellness. Outside work, she enjoys travelling, recently visiting destinations including Ireland and Maui, while snowboarding, workouts and time with her parents remain central parts of her life.

Meanwhile, Luke Wesselhoff has continued pursuing two very different career paths. Alongside his role as a restaurant manager, he remains committed to achieving his long-standing ambition of becoming a firefighter.

After studying at College of the Canyons, he completed training at the Verdugo Fire Academy and previously revealed on the show that he had successfully passed the written firefighter examination while preparing for the next stage of the recruitment process.

Outside work, Luke enjoys travelling, golf, snowboarding and spending time outdoors. His adventures have taken him to destinations including Big Bear Lake and the Exumas Islands in the Bahamas, while family continues to play a huge role in his life.

He regularly speaks warmly about his parents and has often described his grandmother as one of his closest friends, showing a more personal side beyond what viewers saw on screen.

Whether Monica Payne and Luke Wesselhoff are still together remains one of the biggest unanswered questions following The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On Season 4. What is clear is that both walked away from the experience with a better understanding of themselves and what they expect from a long-term relationship. Sometimes reality television creates lasting romances, sometimes it creates valuable life lessons, and occasionally it leaves audiences refreshing social media far more often than they would like to admit. Do you think Monica and Luke quietly made their relationship work, or has their love story reached its final chapter?
